Characters

Characters show Aru’s work status on the desktop. You can search public characters and characters provided by your organization, select one, and control its display separately from AI task features.

Choose a character

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Characters.
3. Search by name or browse the list.
4. Select a character and wait for it to be applied.

You can select the built-in Aru character directly. If you have not selected a character, the default set by your organization may be used. Public and organization choices vary by account and organization.

Turn character display on or off

Change the display switch under Settings → Characters. Turning it off does not disable projects or conversations. The menu or switch may be unavailable in unsupported environments.

Operating-system permissions

On macOS, the character may request Accessibility permission for desktop behavior. Review Aru in the OS prompt. Available behavior and required permissions vary by operating system.

If the character does not appear

Check the display switch and selected character. If the list or application fails, select Retry. Also check OS permission and the app version, then restart Aru and review the display setting.

Showing a character does not grant AI unrestricted control of the computer. For web work, see Browser.
